MODE MUSEUM OF ANTWERP PRESENTS UNRAVEL: KNITWEAR IN FASHION 16 MAR–14 AUG
‘MoMu’ fashion Museum in the province of Antwerp, Belgium, presents the upcoming exhibition Unravel: Knitwear in Fashion featuring a wide variety of knitted garments and accessories from both contemporary and classic knitwear design houses. Historic couture garments from the likes of Schiaparelli, Patou and Chanel, along with top pieces from national and international designers and labels such as Anne Salens, Vivienne Westwood, Sonia Rykiel and Missoni, will be presented alongside work from established avant-garde designers and successful newcomers including Sandra Backlund, Maison Martin Margiela, Mark Fast and Kevin Kramp, to truly unmask the diversity and richness of knitwear in high fashion.
Ann Salens, famous Antwerp designer of the ’70s, will be honoured in the exhibition through a set of installations by contemporary Antwerp-based knitwear designers. This mix of new installations with historic pieces aims to create a different technical and conceptual approach to the art and craft of knitting. The exhibition follows the development and popularity of knitwear both on and off the catwalk throughout the last centuries demonstrating its importance through social and fashion revolutions and its fluid association with comfort and well-being.
‘Unravel: Knitwear in Fashion’, proudly presented by MoMu and Woolmark, will run from 16 March to the 14 August this year and the exhibition catalogue will also be available as of March 16th 2011.
