Throwback cover story ZOOT #8 Autumn 2007: Hormonally yours
This cover editorial was produced 2007 in collaboration with Diesel Spain, as an advertorial. We photographed in the space of former printhouse Mirandela, in Lisbon, situated below the iconic 25 de Abril Bridge in Alcântara. A friend of a friend had bought the huge space and wanted to leave it empty for a while. We suggested setting up a creative hub in the meantime, and we were the first to move in with our studio and ZOOT. Soon, the space would be known as LX Factory.

We had another great collaboration with the amazing Lina O’Connor for ZOOT, the only model to grace the print covers twice. After puplication in Autumn, we got a call from producer Amy Gilliam, the daughter of film director Terry Gilliam, asking if they could use ZOOT #8 in their latest film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. We are still very proud they did…one of our references when we founded ZOOT was the nun called “Zoot” in Terry Gilliam´s iconic film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”. The scene below looking through ZOOT #8, was one of the last scenes Heath Ledger filmed before he died of an accidental overdose in his apartment in Manhattan.
When he died on 22nd January 2008, Ledger had finished about half of the work for his final film role. Gilliam decided to adapt the film after his death by getting his friends and fellow actors Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell to play “fantasy transformations” of his character so that Ledger’s final performance could be seen in theatres.
When the film finally got released in 2009, we had the chance to have an interview with Terry Gilliam. You can read the full interview by Danielle Welton below the editorial.
ZOOT: Zoot Magazine is featured in a scene between Heath Ledger and Lily Cole in Imaginarium [above]. Why Zoot?
TERRY GILLIAM: We Were looking for a magazine that was hip and fashionable and stylish and Zoot came along. We saw the pages and said, We like that, that’s good. I’s probably my daughter Amy who’s guilty.
To boot…
