Throwback: A closer look at DINO ALVES AW23/24 at ModaLisboa Core
TRANS— FORM: A tale of transformation and the influence of the "trans" prefix
Transform, translate, transmit, transfer, are just a few words where the prefix “trans” will always mean change.
Dino Alves´ AW23/24 collection TRANS—FORM delves into the timeless human longing for transformation, especially when it comes to one’s physical presentation. It encompasses the creative process of trying out diverse hairstyles and hair colors, harnessing makeup as a medium for reshaping facial contours, and embracing attire that either accentuates or conceals the body’s natural shape. These metamorphoses resonate universally, fueled by the dynamic currents of fashion trends or, in its purest form, a personal journey towards self-acceptance, sometimes culminating in permanent modifications through plastic surgery.

If we delve into the history of fashion, we can perceive that there has always been a strong desire to alter the body to “improve” it, often resorting to accessories for this purpose. Dino Alves, drawing from these 19th-century foundations, reinterprets them by incorporating them directly into the fabric of skirts, dresses, and trousers. Building upon this historical foundation, Dino crafts fresh and avant-garde silhouettes that exude a unique elegance, presenting a collection that transmutes the body’s innate silhouette. Draping techniques take center stage, and the spirit of crinolines infuses various aspects of garment construction. Wool, knits, tulle, denim, twill, organic cotton, poplin, vinyl, georgette, organza, viscose, and quilted textures emerge in a harmonious palette of colors: black, nude, white, blue, yellow, pink, pale salmon, and lilac.
In this collection, Dino Alves speaks to the liberty to sculpt our external image while reminding us to safeguard the essence that lies beneath it all. This is the essence of TRANS—FORM, where fashion seamlessly intertwines with identity, and each piece narrates a story of metamorphosis.
