A flower-filled path took over the runway for the final collection at ModaLisboa Oasis. Closing the last day of the event was Gonçalo Peixoto displaying his SS23 collection, “SOMETIMES I JUST WANNA KISS GIRLS”. Without thematic or conceptual imposition, the designer’s goal with every collection is to continue exploring his identity as a brand with artistic freedom.

Translucent and shiny fabrics pervaded the entire collection, together with floral prints and embroidery in pastel tones. In creating a romantic flower-filled garden fantasy inspired by scenes from his hometown and his grandmothers’ gardens, the designer presented looks that blended sweet and sexy. He also drew inspiration from his mother’s style in the 1970s with looks his grandmother used to wear, coming together to create his vision of the modern woman.
See-through fabrics composed different silhouettes as dresses, skirts, bottom-down shirts and even transparent pants with straight classic cuts. Long gloves were paired with cropped tops and low-waisted midi skirts, while miniskirts were accompanied by formal jackets with floral patterns or cropped cuts. Spring blossom was the main focus of this collection, as colorful embroidered flower patches took over complete looks. Petals that appeared to bloom out of the base fabric gave a three-dimensional aspect to the garments, as if the models were the blooming garden themselves.
Known for his sequin pieces, Gonçalo had to include the sparkling fabric in this collection. A tailored suit jacket covered in bring yellow sequins and paired with a transparent midi-skirt added a touch of glamour to the formal cut, while barbie-pink sequin sets with voluminous pink feathers closed the beautiful runway show.
With beach waves done by Rui Rocha’s team and a no-makeup look done by ZOOT beauty editor Antónia Rosa and her team, the models walked down the runway to songs from Beyoncé’s recent album Renaissance, entertaining the celebrity-filled crowd that was eager to see Gonçalo Peixoto’s floral spring dream.
