'THE COMING OF THE IGUANAS' BY FELIPE OLIVEIRA BAPTISTA A/W 11 AT PORTUGAL FASHION
The new creative director of Lacoste, Felipe Oliveira Baptista recently presented his Winter 2011 collection, previously featured at Paris Fashion Week, in Porto for the 28th “Portugal Fashion”. The collection took inspiration from a variety of past photographic productions including a series of reptile photographs entitled “amphibians” by Paul Starosta, a series entitled “Nollywood” by Pieter Hugo, images from the book “Vanishing Africa” by Mirella Ricciardi and work by American photographer Richard Avedon.
The collection showcased the usual flawless cuts of Baptista on a selection of deep emotive shades of midnight blue or teal fabrics. Mohair scarves wrapped neatly over the heads of models who were delicately decorated with emerging patterns of bright green, yellow or blue beading, directly inspired by the Amazonian reptiles the title suggests. Exquisite fur sleeves, ribbed leather and jagged cuts of silk crepe decorated the silhouettes giving a rough edge to a perfectly neat collection.
