23-26 MARCH: PORTUGAL FASHION, PORTO
The 28th Portugal Fashion, headlined “Imagination to the Power!”, kicked off today at the famous “Alfândega do Porto” running until Saturday 26th March. The event features 21 fashion shows and 8 fashion performances with the latest collections for Autumn/Winter 2011. The big shows to watch out for this year include Luis Buchinho”s first menswear collection, the début of the Meam brands designed by Ricardo Preto, the first participation of Vicente International brand whose creative director is Bruno de São Vicente, and the collection from Felipe Oliveira Baptista, the new creative director of Lacoste, which recently featured at Paris Fashion Week (the full collection can be seen on facebook here).
The BLOOM Space returns once again taking on the young designers to showcase their fashion performances in an “informal urban and multi-artistic environment” while fashion schools will be showcasing video art. Portugal Fashion this year brings us a unique plasticarts exhibition, from Spanish curator David Clay, displaying contemporary artwork around the theme of fashion phenomenon. The event also has planned DJ sets and two concerts; the Fingertips launching their new album (see for Zoot”s FINGERTIPS report) and GNR will play with a special line-up at the closing ceremony which continues through to Sunday morning…
