9-19 MARCH: THE PERONI COLLECTION, LONDON AT PROUD GALLERY CHELSEA
The exhibition entitled ‘The Peroni Collection: Italian Style on the Silver Screen’ explores 60 years of Italian film, fashion and trends showcasing a variety of classic and contemporary rare archive images and photographs which feature the iconic costumes born from fantasies of legendary directors, designers and artisans.
The images; curated by top photographer, Rankin, and Italian writer, film expert and fashion feature editor at Zoot, Anna Battista, in partnership with Peroni Nastro Azzurro, pay tribute to the fashion maisons, tailoring houses and costume and fashion designers who contributed to creating the magic of Italian cinema. The collection proves the power of the film medium to stir people’s imaginations and even influence new trends. Fashion enthusiasts were compelled to take inspiration from their on-screen idols: men would copy Marcello Mastroianni’s elegance while women were inspired by Sophia Loren, Claudia Cardinale and Monica Vitti.
The exhibition will include original and unseen images by Rankin along with exclusive accessories, such as the legendary “paparazzo shoes” by Alberto Dal Co in 1953, a selection of hats by Borsalino and shoes from the Ferragamo Creations line, reproducing the original footwear Salvatore Ferragamo created for Ava Gardner and Marilyn Monroe.
