MYKITA & BERNHARD WILLHELM MYLON
Berlin eye wear brand, Mykita, has joined arms with German fashion designer, Bernhard Willhelm, to bring us a flamboyant collection in which the thick sausage-like designs conjure up memories of old-school diving masks.
The exclusive patented MYLON material used for the collection was developed by Mykita during their continual search for freedom of design, freedom of colour and freedom of size and form. MYLON involves a polyamide, built up layer upon layer from a powder form, to create a product with unlimited design options that can be moulded into any shape desired. The 3-dimensional structures are brought to reality with a technique known as Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) avoiding all form-related difficulties encountered with conventional injection moulding tools.
When combined with the playful design of Bernhard Willhelm, there were born 3 innovative models; FREDERIC, JACQUES-YVES and PHILIPPE.
Named after famous French diver trio; Frederic Dumas, Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Philippe Tailliez, who were nicknamed “musketeers of the sea” and became the first free-divers to explore the deep ocean with an underwater camera and diving apparatus, the MYLON frames show extreme durability and strength while the lightweight aspect of them maintains wearability and comfort.
The models are available in three colours; matt black with slightly mirrored solid black lenses, reminiscent of the calm dark waters of the ocean; alternative matt grey with silver mirrored lenses; and the cool pink colour-sensation of the collection fitted with cognac-to-blue gradient lenses.
