HIV & AIDS AWARENESS IN THE STREETS OF BAIXA/CHIADO
On Valentines Day, 14th February 2011, the non-governmental organisation ‘O Instituto Marquês Valle Flôr’ (IMVF) launched a guerrilla street action in the centre of Lisbon as part of the European project “Urban Youth Assets: Lifestyles and MDGs”.
The ‘Millenium Development Goals’ (MDGs) are part of a global action plan by the UN to achieve eight anti-poverty goals by 2015. The IMVF was focusing specifically on Goal 6; raising awareness of the struggle to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.
Under this initiative, the streets of downtown Lisbon were decorated with hundreds of red balloons carrying the message “Love is beautiful but not AIDS”.
