JANUARY 15: "ESPACE LOUIS VUITTON TOKYO" OPENING AT OMOTESANDO, TOKYO
Louis Vuitton is happy to announce the opening of an art space, “Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo”, on the 7thfloor of a landmark building in the Omotesando area. The building was build in 2002 as a Louis Vuitton store by architect Mr. Jun Aoki.
Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo is located at the center of Omotesando, the most beautiful area in Tokyo, which has created many trends and cultural movements. The exhibition space on the 7th floor has 193 m2 and 8.45 meters high ceilings. It gives visitors the impression of being in an “aerial space” surrounded by glass. It will feature three exhibitions per year showcasing young artists as well as established artists, individuals and groups, from around the world and from Japan. French artist XAVIER VEILHAN and his “09 exhibition at the Château de Versailles has been selected for the inaugural show, Free Fall. Veilhan”s aesthetic is rooted in urban reality, blending casino en ligne ancient art technique with new processes. In creating this exhibition, Xavier Veilhan drew inspiration from the Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo, suspended between heaven and earth on the 7th floor. Named “Free Fall”, the exhibition was “conceived specifically for this central, weightless place”, he notes. “It invites me to reconstitute the mental and aerial dimensions which can be reached through art.” An invitation to experience the emotion of a weightless trip similar to that felt by the visitor when he discovers the Espace. It combines a series of paper works featuring motifs drawn from three photographs taken during a Free Fall simulator flight. The papers, in various shades of grey, are suspended by pins. The triptych is set on a long and low base, like a bench. The ensemble forms a picture rail that organises the open exhibition space, “itself as if suspended in the cottony skyline of Tokyo.”
