Out with the ITS#TEN Jury
Text by Anna Battista
The jury of the ITS#TEN competition is currently gathered in Trieste to choose the winners of the Fashion & Accessories, Jewellery and Photography categories.
This year over 1,200 portfolios were sent in from 270 schools and 87 nations. Finalists are battling for a cash prize, internships at Diesel, Swarovski, Maison Martin Margiela, the chance of developing a capsule collection with Skukfunk and a professional photo shoot to be shown worldwide at events organised all over the world by zipper manufacturer YKK.
There are some great inspirations and stories behind the collections presented in Trieste: for what regards menswear Fah Chakshuvej moved from romance, armours and engravings creating poetical pieces that showed her passion for pattern cutting; Shaun Samson melted different fabrics together reinventing classic tartans and plaids while Kevin Kramp turned knitwear into a way to present a collection of characters he encountered in his life, rather than just a fashion collection.
Jantine van Peski took one basic macrame knot and used it in her womenswear collection to create textile sculptures such as bell-shaped capes and Amelie Marciasini opted for a futuristic exoticism based on colourful mixes of fur and fabrics (jury member Rolf Snoeren seemed to like the latter since he took a picture of the collection with his mobile phone).
